1. Check Your Thermostat
It sounds like a simple thing but sometimes it can be just that simple. If you have a smart thermostat like a Nest, oftentimes a system update can lead to “New” energy saving settings that will turn your Air conditioner off during peak energy consumption periods which is often in the hottest part of the day. So be sure to check for new settings in your smart thermostat.
Is your thermostat an old mercury thermostat? This style of thermostat is very inaccurate and can lead to your system having a temperature swing of 10 degrees.
So it may be time to upgrade to a new digital thermostat. Be sure to properly dispose of any mercury products.
Check your thermostat’s programmable schedule. Make sure your schedule reflects your lifestyle and avoid really big temperature swings, 5 degrees difference is the recommended setting for different time periods.
2. Check your Electrical Breakers. !! SAFETY ALERT !!! ELECTRICITY IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE WORKED ON BY A TRAINED PROFESSIONAL!!
Oftentimes when bad weather rolls through your area electrical surges will trip your breakers. Reset your breaker by simply switching your AC breaker to the off position then back to the on position.
Now if your breaker trips again shortly after resetting your breaker, switch the breaker to the off position and call an AC contractor. there is a good chance that there is a major electrical short that can lead to further damage to your AC system.
3. Check your Air Filters
The final and most simplest tip is to. Dirty filters lead to lack of air flow which leads to poor performance.
Be sure to check your attic for an inline filter many homeowners are not aware of this filter.
